An ambassador and high commissioners have been appointed to three countries.

The President’s Office on Tuesday revealed that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu made the new appointments at the State Minister level.

Appointed as the High Commissioner of Maldives to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh was Shiuneen Rasheed.

Lieutenant General (Retd) Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef has been appointed as the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye.

The third appointee is Mohamed Thoha as the High Commissioner of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

The People’s Majlis green lighted the appointment of Lieutenant General Abdul Raheem as the new Ambassador to Türkiye and Thoha as the new High Commissioner to Pakistan, during a sitting held on June 30.

Chief of Defence Force Lieutenant General Rtd Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef retired from the armed forces in April this year at the age of 60 years, after 39 years of distinguished service.

President Muizzu sought parliamentary approval for the appointment of Thoha as the Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which was initially approved by the parliament. However, Thoha was appointed as the new envoy to Pakistan.

Abdul Raheem was promoted to the role of Chief of Defense Force from the position of Vice Chief of Defense Force on 17 November 2023.

Abdul Raheem began his service in the armed forces on 18 February 1985 and was the recipient of the President’s Special Award, back in 1989. He was also awarded the National Award Service back in 2021.
