A white alert has been issued for heavy rain showers and thunderstorms.

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MMS) issued the white alert from Haa Alif atoll to Baa atoll.

The alert was issued for heavy rain showers, thunderstorms with strong winds of 22 – 27 miles per hour, with winds gusting at 50 miles per hour and rough seas.

The white alert will be effective through 1:30am, Tuesday.

The white alert is part of a series of alerts both white and yellow being issued across the Maldives over the past couple of days as adverse weather conditions continue to prevail across the Maldives.

Between 8am June 23 and 8am June 24 some islands experienced flooding due to heavy rainfall.

Statistics by the department revealed that Makunudhoo island of Haa Dhaal atoll experienced 34.6 millimeters of rainfall, Alifushi island in Raa atoll experienced 25.7 millimeters of rainfall, Hanimaadhoo island in Haa Dhaal atoll experienced 18.8 millimeters of rainfall and Dhiffushi island in Kaafu atoll experienced 17.9 millimeters of rainfall.
