The remand of the man who was arrested in connection with drug peddling allegations, has been extended.

The man was arrested, after arriving at the post office to collect a package that contained illegal narcotics.

This is the second time the suspect’s remand has been extended.

His remand period was initially extended on June 14, for a period of five days.

Upon being presented to the Criminal Court for his second remand extension on Tuesday, the 30-year-old Maldivian man’s remand was extended for 15 more days.

He was arrested with another individual, 29, in connection with the case.

The 29-year-old was remanded for 15 days. His remand order reads that sufficient evidence was submitted against him.

The man had arrived at post office to collect a package under someone else’s name. Substances weighing 1,006 grams and suspected to have been Cannabis were discovered inside the package.

Another individual was summoned as part of a control delivery operation carried out afterwards.

The 29-year-old had confessed that he was only doing what he was instructed to do.

The 30-year-old’s remand order stated that sufficient evidence was submitted against him as well.

Officers also confiscated a packet filled with suspected narcotics, inside his motorcycle as well.

The 30-year-old’s urine sample returned positive to THC, according to the court order.

The conditions under which the two were required to be kept in custody are in view of Articles 49 of the Constitution and Sections 59 and 60(b) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, for the safety and security of the public.

According to the remand order, judging by how the incident unfolded, it appears that a network of individuals was involved in acts of drug smuggling.
