A Maldivian pilgrim has died while performing this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs revealed that deceased is Fathimath Hafeeza, 80, a native of Hulhudhuffaaru island in Raa atoll.

The ministry revealed that the 80-year-old woman died in Mecca some time on Wednesday night.

Her funeral prayer was held at Masjid al-Haram after Luhr prayer.

This year, a little over 1,000 Maldivians travelled to Saudi Arabia to join thousands of other pilgrims for the Hajj pilgrimage.
