The Presidential inquiry Commission on Disappearances and Deaths (DDCom) has been dissolved.
This was announced by the President’s Office on Sunday.
As such, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu dissolved the commission via a presidential decree issued on June 2.
In the decree signed on Sunday, President Muizzu noted that DDCom has been dissolved.
The commission was dissolved following the completion of its mandate.
The commission, tasked with investigating unresolved deaths and enforced disappearances, was established during the former administration on 17 November 2018.
It was formed by former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
DDCom was formed to investigate the deaths and disappearances recorded between the beginning of 2012 and the 17th of November 2018,
The ex-president established DDCom because he believed that it was the responsibility of the state to conduct independent and credible investigations into deaths and enforced disappearances during the period, which could not be adequately probed in the past due to a number of reasons.
The commission had concluded investigations into some deaths and forwarded reports of their findings as well.
One of these cases include the murder of journalist Ahmed Rilwan.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu decided to dissolve the commission by 31 May 2024.
DDcom was tasked with sharing their reports will the president as per Section 9 of the Presidential Commission’s Act, which stipulates that all reports should be sent to the president.
