Detained lawmaker Saud Hussain's mother has passed away on Sunday, at the age of 64.

Speaking to RaajjeMV, a family member said that the MPs mother, Nasira Ahmed had passed away on Sunday morning while receiving treatment at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH).

About an hour after the news of his mother's death, MP Saud was brought to the Criminal Court for official purposes, without being taken to his mother's side.

The Villingilli constituency MP has been in police custody since July 27, over accusations of breaking police lines and entering the parliament premises on July 24, despite Elections Commission announcing that he no held a seat in parliament.

The Commission's decision was made after the Supreme Court, in July, ruled to disqualify parliamentarians who leave their party, joins another or is expelled from their party.

In addition, terror charges have been raised against MP Saud, for allegedly conspiring to kill High Court Judge Shujau Usman. Same charges have been raised against Ibrahim Haneef, a former deputy minister at the Ministry of Eduction.

MP Saud, who defected from the ruling Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) to the opposition in April, was dismissed from PPM the same month.

In addition to Saud, MPs for Thulushdoo and Maduvvari constituencies, Mohamed Waheed and Mohamed Ameeth are in police custody over the same matter.
