The police have said that Constable Ali Razzan, who was attacked with a sharp object on Saturday, had sustained injuries between his left shoulder and chest.

Razzan was attacked while he, and a number of other officers, attempted to apprehend a man who forced his way onto Maafushi island of Kaafu atoll. The man had disboarded a speed boat that was en route to the island.

The Maldives Police Services’ (MPS) media official told RaajjeMV that the man, along with the captain of the speed boat and two other passengers, have been apprehended. The police have also seized a number of items that were reportedly meant to be smuggled onto the island.

The police had apprehended a 51-year-old, two 32-year-olds, and a minor.

While the police are investigating the incident, they have increased security on the island – which holds one of the largest prisons in the country.
