Council members of Meedhoo island of Raa atoll have pushed the administration to implement a harbor expansion project in the island.
This was done during a meeting President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu held with the island’s council and Women's Development Committee (WDC) members on Saturday.
The meeting saw councilors shedding light on the specific modifications they would like to be implemented to ongoing development projects.
As such, discussions revolved around the need to expand the island’s harbor, build a hospital in the island, address the housing issues facing the community, initiating a shore protection project as well as maximizing land reclamation within feasible limits.
Further, Meedhoo councilors shed light on the need to modernize the island’s roads, provide indoor sports facilities, establish an Islamic center and establish a dollar ATM.
Listening to these concerns, the president assured the members that his administration would address the issues raised by the council and seek solutions to tackle them, through consultations with relevant authorities.
Members of the president’s Cabinet of Ministers accompanying him on the tour, shared latest updates linked to the issues raised at the meeting.
The president also assured that the administration would carry out the construction of the island’s harbor, to mirror the aspirations of the island community.
