The land reclamation project in Vashafaru island of Haa Alif atoll will begin this year.
This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, while speaking to residents of the island on Sunday.
Taking the podium at the event, the president expressed commitment to fast-track the provision of laboratory services at health centers on every island to serve the local population.
The president highlighted that one would be established in Vashafaru as part of this initiative.
He went on to share his plans to establish a waste management center on the island.
During the meeting the president also pledged to fulfill all the pledges he has made, for the progress of Vashafaru island.
Despite the president’s promises, Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIPs) projects remain halted.
At a time public criticism has been targeted towards the incumbent administration regarding the stalled projects, the president has stated that the projects could not be resumed because when the state budget for the year was passed, there wasn’t sufficient funds allocated for the completion of the projects. He added that the commencement of the halted projects, depends on the revenue the state generates.
The president has made this claim, at a time parliamentarians have assured that funds have been allocated in the state budget, as requested by the government, for all PSIP projects.
