Authorities have seized the passport of Galolhu South Constituency MP Ahmed Mahloof.
MP Mahloof’s passport was seized as part of the investigation in to the Parliament proceedings of July 31st, a case filed by the Armed Forces.
The court order signed by Judge Ali Adam of Criminal Court stated that the passport was seized as MP Mahloof was one of the MPs who had obstructed Army officers in the Parliament on July 31st.
In the leaked audio of Minister Adam Shareef meeting with officers of Special Protection Group (SPG) on Monday night, following Parliament proceedings earlier in the day, he had pledged to raise criminal charges on the said Members. He added that MNDF had appealed to Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef and Home Minister Ahmed Azleen to expedite the case.
The court order states that MP Mahloof’s passport was seized as he was a flight risk and if allowed to flee can hamper the investigation.
In response to this, Mahloof denied that he had planned to leave the country and that he was not aware how the Police intelligence had arrived at that conclusion. He said he wished to remain in the country until a resolution was found.
The Court order alleges that MP Mahloof had made travel plans to Sri Lanka.
The passport was seized from August 2, 2017 to September 1st.
