Maldives Police Service (MPS) has said that no arrests have been made over the murder of Mohamed Anas, who was stabbed to death in a gruesome attack on Monday night.
25-year-old Anas, native to Meedhoo of Raa atoll, was attacked by a group of masked assailants at around 9:10 pm on Monday. He was at Litus Service Center, located on Hadheebee Magu of the Henveiru ward of the capital city, when he was attacked.
His death was confirmed shortly after the attack.
Eyewitnesses told RaajjeMV that the group left the crime scene in three motorcycles, and that the victim had multiple stab wounds on his chest.
A family member told RaajjeMV that Anas worked as a captain on a speedboat, and that he had gone to Litus to meet with a friend.
"He frequented there when in Malé. Heard the news of stabbing around 30 minutes after he had left the house," said the family member.
There have been a number of such attacks across the city in the recent days; 24-year-old Nadheem 'Nadey' Abdul Rahman, who was stabbed in the head while inside a café last Thursday, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. Another attack was reported later that night.
