The Prosecutor General’s (PG) office has raised 25 charges against Abdulla Ziyath, former Managing Director of the state-operated Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), and nine against jailed ex-Vice President Ahmed Adeeb.

Prosecutors forwarded 25 cases of graft and embezzlement against Ziyath while Adeeb is facing nine counts of abusing power.

These allegations are in relation to over 58 islands and lagoons which were reportedly leased unlawfully by the MMPRC during Ziyath’s time at its helm. The Anti-Corruption Commission had investigated the matter and forwarded it to the police.

Ziyath and Adeeb are facing allegations for their involvement in leasing 25 and nine of said islands, respectively.
