Muizzu arrived in Guraidhoo island on Tuesday morning

The Guraidhoo Airport construction project in Thaa atoll, is set to begin this year.

This was announced by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday.

He said this while speaking to residents of Guraidhoo island of Thaa atoll, as part of his ongoing three-day tour of islands of Thaa atoll which he began on Tuesday.

Taking the podium at the meeting with the island community, the president pledged to ensure the construction project begins this year.

Expressing gratitude to the island community for the warm welcome he received upon arrival, the Maldivian leader stated that his administration has included the maximum number of development initiatives within the state budget, within a short span of time.

The president went on to shed light on the importance of the Guraidhoo Airport project for the island community.

Muizzu announced that his administration will proceed with the project even if it hasn’t been listed as a development initiative, in the state budget.

Adding that his administration aims to offer sustainable development expressively, Muizzu highlighted that he would remain committed to address the needs of the island community.

Going on to assure that his administration is committed to address the needs and desires of the island community, Muizzu stated that this goes beyond the scope of an airport development initiative.

He also touched upon the current economic position of the country and urged the island community to collaborate with state institutions and relevant authorities to prioritize these needs in order of significance.

Muizzu arrived in Guraidhoo island on Tuesday morning, as the first destination of his brief tour of Thaa atoll.

During the three-day visit, Muizzu will be holding meetings with island residents, island councils and Women’s Development Committees (WDCs).

As part of the visit, Muizzu will be holding discussions regarding relevant development concerns of island communities.

He will also be inquiring about the urgent needs and desires of the island communities across Thaa atoll.
