President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has held meetings with several political leaders, at a time the People’s Majlis has passed clauses on deposing the incumbent administration.

The meetings were held separately at the President’s Office on Wednesday afternoon.

Some of the top figures in the political sphere the president held meetings with on Wednesday include Jumhooree Party (JP)’s leader and MP for Maamigili constituency Qasim Ibrahim, President of the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA) and MP for Meedhoo constituency Ahmed Shiyam Mohamed, President of the Maldives National Party (MNP) and MP for Dhangethi constituency Colonel (retired) Mohamed Nazim as well as the President of ‘The Democrats’ party and MP for west-Henveiru constituency Hassan Latheef.

RaajjeMV understands that the meetings were held by the president to garner support for his side, if a motion to depose his administration takes place at the parliament.

The President’s Office revealed that discussions at the meetings revolved around collaborations to improve the government and for the betterment of the island nation.

The meetings saw the political leaders admitting their support for the incumbent administration to maintain the country’s peace and tranquility, carry out multiple development projects and prioritize national interests in domestic and global affairs.

The meetings took place at a time the People’s Majlis has passed amendments to clauses 202, 203 and 49 of the rules of parliament. These amendments center around deposing President Muizzu and Vice President Hussan Mohamed Latheef.
