Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef has met Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Social Affairs and Employment of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Karien van Gennip.
The meeting was held on Tuesday, as part of VP Latheef’s official visit to Geneva, Switzerland, to participate in the high-level event to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Human Rights 75.
Discussions at the meeting revolved around avenues to enhance the existing relations between the two countries.
Further, the Maldivian VP and Deputy Prime Minister of Netherlands also engaged in discussions regarding ways to ease Schengen visa facilitations for Maldivian travelers as well as cooperation in the fields of tourism, trade and fisheries.
Further, they talked about ways to expand training and higher education opportunities for Maldivian youth.
The Dutch Deputy Prime Minister highlighted that Dutch private-sector enterprises are interested in investing in the Maldives.
The meeting was concluded with the Maldivian VP and the Deputy Prime Minister of Netherlands expressing hope to work together and solidifying the bilateral ties between the two countries.
Diplomatic relations were established between Maldives and the Netherlands on 3 September 1979.
