Shroud the Parliament in black, says ex-Speaker Shahid
Have not seen such scenes in Parliament
Constitution cannot be bent to rule whichever way
Pres. Yameen does not know how to govern within laws

Former Parliament Speaker Abdullah Shahid has stated that it would be more appropriate to shroud the Parliament in black.

The current MP for Henveyru North Constituency, Abdullah Shahid made the statement speaking in RaajjeTV’s ‘Fala Suruhee’ program, where he spoke at length on the current status of the Parliament.

Referring to the national flag raised on the occasion of the 52nd Independence Day, Shahid said that there was no need to raise that flag, but said that black would be a better option.

Reflecting on his 22-year tenure as a Parliamentarian, Shahid said the events that transpired on the 24th was a first in the Parliament’s history. He added that this was the biggest insult to the citizens.

Referring to the speech given by President Yameen on Independence Day, Shahid said that there was no democratic nation that impeded on elected legislators.  He also said that President Yameen and his administration was governing as they wished. However, Shahid said the current Constitution did not give room for such form of administration, adding that President Yameen did not know how to govern as per the law.
