Crackdown on Opposition
MPs Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Falah ordered attend Police questioning
Summons ordered them to present themselves to Police HQ
Summoned over breaking Police ranks near Parliament

Summons has been issued on opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Parliamentary Group Leader and Hinnavaru Constituency MP Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and Maafannu West MP Mohamed Falah.

MP Solih is to be summoned to Police Headquarters of Shaheedh Hussain Adam Building at 5pm on July 27. This is the first time summons had been issued on the Parliamentarian.

Summons were issued on MP Falah for 3pm on Thursday.

Both MPs are summoned for the ongoing investigation where a number of Parliamentarians had broken Police ranks near Parliament grounds.

Kimbidhoo Constituency MP Abdullah Riyaz had already attended his summons issued on the same charges. He had submitted himself to the Police at 8pm on Wednesday. The MP was ordered to attend the summons with his lawyer at 1pm today.

Speaking to RaajjeTV, Abdullah Riyaz said that President Yameen now doesn’t command any respect or support from the public. He said this was precisely the reason why the Parliament was under lockdown.

While obstruction charges for breaking Police ranks had been filed on current opposition MPs, no agency or institution in this nation had reviewed the case where back in 2012, the current Vilimale’ MP Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik had broken Police ranks.
