MP Faris Maumoon, who represents the Dhiggaru constituency, has been transferred to the prison on Maafushi island.
Faris’ lawyers told RaajjeMV that the parliamentarian, who is facing bribery allegations, was transferred there on Tuesday night.
Maumoon Hameed, who is part of said legal team, said that he and his colleagues had met MP Faris earlier on Tuesday and ensured that his commitment to the opposition’s reform work is ‘unwavering’.
Faris was arrested on the 18th of this month. Since then he was kept at the Dhoonidhoo prison before being temporarily transferred to the prison in Maafushi and then back again.
The legal team has appealed the Criminal Court’s decision to remand Faris until sentencing, which courts accepted on Tuesday.
