Attorney General Ahmed Usham has been appointed as a member of the Judicial Services Commission (JSC).
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu confirmed AG Usham’s appointment as a member of JSC on Thursday, after presenting him with his Letter of Appointment.
AG Usham took his oath in the presence of President Muizzu during a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Thursday.
His oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Aisha Shujoon Mohamed.
AG Usham was appointed to the position in accordance with Article 158 (i) of the Maldives’ Constitution.
Article 158 (i) emphasizes the composition of JSC and Section 3 (9) of the Judicial Service Commission Act (Act 10/2008), which stipulates that the Attorney General shall hold membership of the JSC.
Earlier, Usham served as the parliamentarian for Villimalé constituency.
AG Usham has also served as a Deputy Attorney General in the past.
