The Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) has released a white alert for the southern region of the country.

The MET Office said that the southernmost Addu City had experienced 73 millimeters of rain on Friday, and that it is projected to experience more.

The authority further said that if further turbulent weather is predicted, they would issue a yellow alert on the region.

White alerts entail that rainfall of more than 50 millimeters is expected to occur within 24 hours and high tidal waves are expected.

Yellow alerts are one stage higher and asks authorities and people living in the area to be on alert and ready to take action and that travel by sea is not advisable.
