Henveyru North Constituency MP Abdullah Shahid has said that the Constitution does not need a baby sitter as it is, on its own, an independent entity.
Speaking in MDP’s National Congress, the former Parliament Speaker said that the current political situation must be evaluated and reflected upon. He stressed that the Constitution must be followed and adhered to.
Shahid added that there were many attempts to halt their efforts to hold the Govenrment accountable and bring a just rule for the citizens. Further adding that as per the Constitution, all powers of the state began from the citizens, Shahid reminded that this remained with the citizens as well.
Shahid had criticized Elections Commission, noting that the Commission did not have the right to strip a sitting MP from his seat. He said only the Supreme Court had the right to do so and any attempts by any other institution to do so is a crime.
MP Shahid added that justice must be established and that all attempts to strip MPS from their seats was an unjust act.
EC has stated that Thulusdhoo Constituency Member of Parliament Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Madduvvari Constituency MP Mohamed Ameeth, Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abdul Latheef Mohamed and Vilingili Constituency MP Saud Hussain had lost their seats.
