Reports claiming that the state had leased two uninhabited islands to the Noorul Islam International (NIMS), an Indian company that was previously given a project to develop the regional hospital in Kulhuddufushi island have surfaced.
An official from the organization said that the islands have been leased for 50 years.
The government had given management of the Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital to the company, after President Abdulla Yameen declared in this year’s Presidential Address that the government would award the development to a multispecialty tertiary hospital with 150 beds to a foreign firm.
The hospital currently features 50 beds. Its management is to be awarded to NIMS for a period of 30 years.
