MPs who signed motion will not lose their seats

Ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) has ordered the MPs who had signed the no confidence motion on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh, to revoke their signatures.

Eleven MPs from the Party had signed the motion.

Ten out of the 11 MPs had already sent in their letters of resignation.

The Supreme Court ruling issued on Sunday, assures that the Parliamentary seats of the those who had signed the no confidence motion will not lose their seats.

The letter sent by PPM said that those MPs who had voted for the motion had voted against the Party views and against the Party and PG laws.

Forty-five MPs had signed the no confidence motion on Speaker. Following the motion, the Attorney General, backed by the Government had initiated a series of motions to remedy the situation. Attorney General had put forth a motion which when passed by Supreme Court had criminalized floor crossing. A subsequent ruling issued by Supreme Court assured that those MPs who had signed the no confidence motion would not lose their seats.
