Jumhooree Party leader Qasim Ibrahim, who was admitted to the Medica Hospital on Sunday, is receiving treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The party’s secretary-general, Ahmed Sameer, said that despite his condition worsening throughout the day, he is now showing significant signs of recovery.

Qasim, who is also the parliamentary representative to his native Maamigilli constituency, was taken to the hospital after he suffered from sudden dizziness, nausea, and shortness of breath.

His hearing for three charges against him at the Criminal Court – which was scheduled for Sunday afternoon – had been cancelled after the incident.

Prosecutors and Qasim’s legal term had exchanged documents for the charges against him.

The three cases were filed last Wednesday, which include charges for bribery, obstruction of a public official’s duties, and vote buying.

The Criminal Court had earlier dismissed all three charges following a hearing last week, which prosecutors had not attended.
