Eid al-Adha falls on June 28

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has said that the purpose of Celebrating Eid should be to exercise compassion and spread good will.

The president made this remark in his message of greetings to the people, issued on Tuesday, to commemorate the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

In his message to the people on the joyous occasion of Eid-Al-Adha, President Solih offered greetings and felicitations of the day to all Muslims in Mecca performing the Hajj pilgrimage, as well as to the members of the whole Muslim nation.

The Maldivian leader encouraged the public to renew their bonds with loved ones and family, by embracing parents with respect and kindness.

The people were also urged to exchange gifts with their parents, spouses and children with love and affection during this Eid festival.

The president also called on the people to visit relatives and friends to exchange Eid greetings, in a bid to promote peace and harmony within the society.

Further, President Solih highlighted that the more fortunate and effluent people among us, must not waste this blessed opportunity to help those in need.

Calling on the people to stay away from anger and violence, the president urged them to seek contentment in life through care and compassion.

The president also advised the people to be determined not to entertain negative sentiments such as jealousy and hatred towards one another, and strive to remain on that straight path.
