Govt. motion seeks to criminalize floor crossing

Former President Mohamed Nasheed says that even the Supreme Court Justices are not exempt from the rule of the Constitution.

He made the statement in a tweet penned in Dhivehi.

In his tweet, the former President said even the Supreme Court Justices are not exempt from the Constitution. As such, he said any rulings that violates the spirit of the Constitution is the biggest corruption.

He made the statement in connection to the motion submitted by the Attorney General to Supreme Court to criminalize floor crossing. The motion, submitted on behalf of the citizens, refers to clauses 26 (c), 30 (a), 74 and 75 and asks to criminalize floor crossing.

Government’s PG had supported the motion. RaajjeMV understands that the motion will be passed in a manner that does not put the PPM MPs will not lose their seats.

The motion came after high profile defections from PPM, which had resulted in the Government losing their majority status in Parliament.
