Former President Mohamed Nasheed says that they will be able to bring an end to President Yameen’s administration and be able to hold an election with candidates backed by Parties.

He made the statement in the address given on occasion of the 12th anniversary of the formation of opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).

He gave the statement from Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In his address, Nasheed said the Party ‘had opened a new page’ and that ‘President Yameen had exited his own viber group’. He added that the Yameen administration was losing their tenacious grip on power. Nasheed said all this had contributed to make this anniversary even more special.

Nasheed said the work carried out by MDP, in alliance with Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Jumhooree Party President Qasim Ibrahim, Adhaalath Party Leader Sheikh Imran Abdullah was becoming successful, as recent events had proved.

‘We can create a just rule for Maldivians, revert democracy back into the Maldives. Make independent institutions independent, limit Government interference to the judiciary. Ensure that Police and Army are free from political influence. Bring back the decentralized system of rule. Limit actions that impact stability of Indian Ocean region. Eliminate the culture of murder, intimidation, looting and give citizens a peaceful life. Our united efforts will be successful, with the will of God. We will be able to bring an end to the administration of President Yameen and hold elections with candidates endorsed by the Parties,’ he said.
