Maldives Police Service (MPS) has given assurance that former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb will not face any harm during his incarceration in Dhoonidhoo jail.
The statement came following allegations that Adeeb was the target of an assassination attempt.
Police Spokesperson Superintendent of Police Ahmed Shifan reported to RaajjeMV that the rumors of an assassination attempt were unfounded. He said that any and all persons under Police custody are under protection, adding that Adeeb had been given full protection while in Dhoonidhoo.
In a tweet posted on Monday, lawyer Mahfooz Saeed said that they had learnt of an attempt on Adeeb's life and alerted the relevant authorities. He had attached a picture of the letter sent to the Commissioner of Police Hussain Areef with the tweet.

The rumors of the assassination attempt came after Galolhu South MP Ahmed Mahloof tweeted a picture of Adeeb in his cell in Dhoonidhoo, adding that he was fearful that Adeeb may die while in prison.
Mahloof had previously said that Adeeb's life was in danger.
The former VP is serving a 33-year jail term on terror and corruption charges.
