Dhihdhoo Constituency MP Abdul Latheef has called on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh to resign from his positon.
He made the call in a letter sent to the Speaker.
In his letter he noted that Maseeh was elected to his position with support and had voted to keep him in the position on three occasions, by way of passing amendments to the Parliament procedures. Latheef said that he had on many occasions sacrificed much to protect the sanctity of the position of Parliament Speaker.
In his letter the MP accused the Speaker of insincerity, absconding his duties as Speaker, subverting the Constitution and the laws. Therefore, he said it will be better for the Speaker to resign from his position and his Constituents.
MP Latheef criticized the bills passed with Maseeh as Speaker, such as the expedited bill on foreign land ownership. He said this bill was deeply concerning especially to the public.
Latheef further said that Speaker Maseeh had not attended the PG session on the Criminal Procedures act and questioned his sincerity. He also noted Maseeh's attempts to negate the voice and disrespect the opposition MPs.
Latheef concluded his letter to the Speaker by appealing for his graceful resignation.
