Adam Azim, now an opposition leader, has thanked former Vice President Ahmed Adeeb for his part in attempting to clear the name of his jailed brother, former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim.

Azim said in an interview to RaajjeMV that he is confident that the information the former vice president will potentially reveal can have his brother freed.

Adeeb had filed a letter with the Supreme Court claiming that he had key information about the weapons charge for which Nazim is serving an 11-year jail sentence.

Azim also said that the police and the Maldives National Defence Force must also consider the information Adeeb reveals.

The former vice president said, in the letter, that he thoroughly understands how the firearms were found inside the apartment where Nazim lives, and that the former defence minister had no part in it. He reportedly claims to know the individuals responsible for ‘framing’ Nazim.

Azim himself is part of the joint opposition cause to oust President Abdulla Yameen, serving as the Trade Minister at the Maldives United Opposition’s shadow cabinet. He was recently arrested and shortly released over charges of attempting to overthrow the government.
