No confidence motion will be sent once Parliament opens after Eid break

President Abdullah Yameen has appealed to Parliamentarians from ruling Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) not to vote in favor of the no confidence motion on Parliament Speaker Abdullah Maseeh.

He made the desperate plea in the PPM Parliamentarians viber group. Leaked screenshots from the group are now circulating in social media.

The appeal says “Dear MPs. I would face immense difficulties if any MP signs the Speaker Maseeh case. I sincerely appeal not to sign this, even if there are any dissatisfaction, as it can impact government and PG,”.

Manadhoo Constituency MP Umar Hussain, Hulhudhoo Constituency MP Mohamed Shahid, Naifaru Constituency MP Ahmed Shiyam, Dhuvaafaru Constituency MP Mohamed Ali and Faresmaathodaa Constituency MP Hussain Mohamed Latheef had echoed messages in support of President Yameen.

Responding to the message, President Yameen said he thanked the MPs and all MPs were welcome to meet him privately regarding the issue.

Raajje.mv understands that the issue of Speaker Maseeh had been hotly debated in the group.

Opposition MPs had claimed the vote on Speaker Maseeh will be reinstated once the Parliament resumes session after the Eid break.

The appeal came amid strong criticism of Ministers and the Government by Parliamentarians of PPM.
