Electricity Issues
No quick resolution to Alifushi electricity issues: Council President
Generator brought in from the other island not functioning
Panel board issue

Alifushi Island Council says there was no hope of a quick resolution to the electricity issues facing the island.

Speaking to Raajje.mv, Alifushi Council President Abdullah Raazee said a technical team from FENAKA was attempting to provide electricity to the island with the existing 400-kilowatt generator and the 200-kilowatt generator brought in to the island.

Raazee said in spite of this, the panel board had failed to provide a solution as it had overheated. He added that he had followed the wishes of the public and had not supplied electricity as the power outages were still expected. He said the public did not want their assets damaged.

Raazee noted the island had faced power outages for months, adding that a radiator for the 600-kilowatt generator is essential to resolve the issue.

FENAKA Managing Director Ahmed Shareef said the radiator will be loaded by early next month and is expected to take a lot longer to reach Male’.

Parliament Member for the Constituency Mohamed Rasheed, who is currently in the area, reported to RaajjeTV that his constituents are in deplorable conditions. Though electricity was given to the island on Wednesday night, it was disrupted again after sunrise. Rasheed said a lot more needed to be done to install the generator brought into the island. He noted that FENAKA and youth of the island were active in this process.

Alifushi has been plagued with electricity issues for months, with a major outage in the island the past week.
