The regional magistrate court in Gemanafushi has remanded two suspects arrested over vandalizing a judge’s motorcycle by 12 days.
The police said that the two individuals, ages 30 and 22, were remanded on Friday.
They were arrested for having first threatened Hassan Didi, chief judge of Kanduhulhudhoo’s magistrate court, and then dousing his motorcycle in petrol before lighting the vehicle on fire.
Residents of Kanduhulhudhoo – which is in Gaafu Alifu atoll – said they had also vandalized a vehicle belonging to the island’s leading teacher, a state official assigned to the island’s public school. Although the teacher’s motorcycle had been less severely damaged.
RaajjeMV understands that these incidents are linked to a recent rift in political leaning in Kanduhulhudhoo.
