Former parliamentarian for Kaashidhoo constituency, Abdulla Jabir has entered London, after being detained at Gatwick airport for over 15 hours, as Maldives authorities decide to cancel his passport while he was travelling.
On Wednesday, his wife and former Attorney General, Dhiyana Saeed had said that Jabir was being held at the airport in England, after arriving there from Italy.
Speaking to RaajjeMV, Jabir said that there had been no issues with his passport when he left Italy on Tuesday night, but that when he landed in London after a two-hour flight, both his passports- ordinary and diplomatic- had been revoked.
He said that he was now in London, after being detained at the airport for over 15 hours. However, he did not reveal how he managed to enter London with a cancelled passport.
Following the incident, Jabir had also tweeted that President Abdulla Yameen had failed.
Police have been searching for the former MP in relation to an ongoing investigation and had attempted to send a summon notice to his home in Malé City, but failed to do so as he was out of the country.
The well-known businessman was appointed as advisor to former President Mohamed Nasheed in April 2017, and has been a strong critic of the current administration.
