One additional expatriate has been arrested in connection to the murder of Ismail Umar (54) in Ihavandhoo Island. The six arrested had been remanded for 15 additional days.
Police media official said previously five expatriates were arrested, with an additional arrested recently. Their remands have been extended from the 17th of this month.
Sumon Miah (27), a fellow co-worker at the ice plant, was first arrested in connection to the murder. He later on confessed to the murder. Police had recovered the weapons used to murder Ismail and the clothes he was wearing at that time.
Police say they were first notified of the crime on Friday around 4.23pm. When Ihavandhoo Police Station went to the scene, blood was discovered on the door. Police had searched ice plant, the offices and accommodation blocks, where they found the body in the ice plants ice processing unit.
