President Yameen’s decisions not accepted globally: Dhiyana
Accused Yameen administration of violence against critics
No legal basis for measures against opposition
Procedures must be carried out before seizing passport

Former Attorney General Fathimath Dhiyana Saeed says the actions of President Abdullah Yameen against his opponents was not accepted by civilized nations.

Speaking to RaajjeTV’s ’60 minutes’ program, regarding the Government’s decision to cancel the passport of her husband and former Parliamentarian Abdullah Jabir, she said the treatment of opponents was clear to civilized nations. Dhiyana accused the Yameen administration of cruel and inhumane treatment of the critics, without any judicial or rational basis.

Dhiyana said the Government of Maldives had of late cancelled passports, without first completing the legal procedures.

All these aspects, she said highlighted the importance of reform for the entire nation.
