Former MP Abdulla Jabir being held at an airport in Britain after Maldivian authorities reportedly placed a travel ban on him and cancelled his passport.
Jabir’s wife, former Attorney General Dhiyana Saeed, said that he is being ‘held’ at the Gatwink Airport in England.
He was not aware of the travel ban before he reached the United Kingdom from Italy on Tuesday night.
The family does not know the reason for the ban. Immigration officers were not available for a comment on the matter at the time of press.
The police have been searching for the former parliamentarian in relation to an ongoing case. They had attempted to summon Jabir from his home in Malé City on April 27th.
Jabir, also a prominent businessman, was appointed a personal advisor to opposition leader and former President Mohamed Nasheed during the same month.
