The Waste Management Corporation (WAMCO) has assigned a new managing director, Mohamed Shifaau – native to Thinadhoo island of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

Mohamed Nizar, the chair of the local privatization board, which presides over public sector corporations, announced this in a tweet on Tuesday.

Nizar had announced that its former managing director, Ibrahim Fuad.

WAMCO is a state-operated enterprise that is holds itself specially to carry out waste management in the Maldives.

Last year, it had divided the Maldives into 10 domestic zones in a bid to systemize waste collection, and will be responsible for collecting waste from households in the capital city from July onwards.
