Galolhu South Constituency Member of Parliament Ahmed Mahloof says President Yameen cannot hope to remain in power unconstitutionally, even though the current administration had secured power by using Supreme Court.
The recently released Parliamentarian, who also serves as Spokesperson for Maldives United Opposition (MUO), made the statement speaking in RaajjeTV’s ‘Fala Surukhee’ program.
Mahloof said that President Yameen will have no other option but to hold next year’s Presidential elections. Mahloof said even if Supreme Court hands over power to President Yameen in 2018 without an election, Police and Army will not allow that to carry on.
Noting that several officers of Police and Army had met him following his release, Mahloof said officers of the two agencies are under a state of constant fear. This, he said was communicated clearly, adding that even they had expressed their hopes to see a regime change.
Referring to the necessity of restoring public confidence in the judicial justice system, Mahloof said that an overhaul of the entire system is essential, which will be achieved once the work of the opposition is carried out. He said the level of failure in the judicial justice system is evident in the process of his appeal.
Mahloof called on all those in the judicial justice system not to follow President Abdullah Yameen’s instructions blindly.
