The Economic Ministry has enforced regulations upon companies that deliver water and gas in bulk, in a bid to control the capital city Malé’s heavy traffic situation.
A statement from the ministry implies that said regulations will only be in effect for the duration of the ongoing month of Ramadan.
“In order to make commute easier for residents, water and gas deliveries cannot be made between the hours of 14:00 to 17:00” the Economic Ministry’s statement said.
The statement further states that these hours are especially busy with roads pedestrians primarily comprising of parents and their children.
Malé, with an area of just 5.8 square kilometres, is one of the most densely populated cities in the world.
