Jumhoree Party (JP) has on Tuesday, filed a case at the Civil Court, over Elections Commission (EC) ordering the party to cease the use of its flag and logo.
JP’s deputy leader and MP for Kinbidhoo constituency Abdulla Riyaz said that the case filed at the Civil Court seeks to annul EC's order banning JP the use of its flag and logo.
Referring to the procedures issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the use of the national flag, the Commission sent a letter to JP’s leader Qasim Ibrahim, noting that its logo and flag mimicked that of the standard used by the President. The letter ordered Jumhooree Party to change the flag and logo before June 1.
However, the party has refused to comply with the order, highlighting that EC does not have the mandate to make such an order.
Jumhooree party has been using its flag and logo since 2015.
