Spokesperson to the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz, has on Monday said that the government will continue to maintain economic ties with Qatar.

Muaz made the statement in a tweet following the Foreign Ministry decision to sever all ties earlier. 

The government’s announcement came hours after Saudi Arabia and several other Arab nations severed ties with Qatar, claiming that the nation’s policies fuel terrorism and radical ideologies. 

The opposition has condemned this decision, describing it as one that is reckless and would endanger Maldives’ socio-economic development.
