ADK Hospital has said that the health conditions of the three patients being treated in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU)- after sustaining serious injuries in a boat accident on May 30- are improving.
A total of 15 people were injured in the accident when a boat travelling from Summer Island Resort crashed into a vessel docked at the Reethi Rah Resort. The boat's driver reported that the docked vessel had not been lit and therefore he was unable to see it.
Speaking to RaajjeMV on Saturday, Managing Director of ADK Hospital Ahmed Affaal said that the health condition of two of the three patients are improving, as well as the individual who had sustained the most serious injuries in the accident.
Ali Waseem, 30, an employee at Summer Island Resort has sustained the most serious injuries in the accident including to his skull, and the hospital was forced to carry out an emergency operation.
According to ADK, fourteen of the accident victims were treated at the hospital, while nine are still admitted and receiving treatment.
At a joint press conference with Maldives Transport Authority on Wednesday, Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) had said that both parties were at fault in the boat accident. MNDF also reported that most of the injured individuals are staff members of Summer Island Resort.
The resort has said that they are keeping a close eye on the situation of those involved in the accident, and checking the progress of those being treated in the ICU.
