Bank of Maldives (BML) has developed a park dedicated to senior citizens in Feydhoo island in Seenu atoll, under its ‘Community Fund’ initiative.

The ‘Maama Kaafa Park’ was opened to the public on Saturday. The project aims to promote healthy lifestyles and wellbeing of senior citizens and also to encourage them to engage in social activities and connect to their community.

BML revealed that the park is shaded and equipped with benches and seating which allow senior citizens to enjoy outdoor games such as carrom, cards and chess.

Further, in partnership with NGOs in the region, health checkups and awareness sessions will be held on a monthly basis.

“The idea of the ‘Maama Kaafa Park’ was to ensure that our grandparents get to enjoy their time and connect with family and friends. This is a special park dedicated to the senior citizens of our island and our hope is to see our grandparents happy and active.” Shimla Ahmed

The community fund campaign aims to empower individuals to contribute to the society by conducting sustainable community projects across the Maldives.

The Community Fund is a programme aimed at empowering individuals and NGOs to contribute to local communities through sustainable projects. The project is open for individuals, local NGOs, Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), women’s development groups, tech community movements and youth empowerment groups. Government and business entities are not eligible for the program.

The country’s national bank has financially supported 60 projects nationwide since the fund was incepted.
