Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has passed to hold the Party’s fourth Congress in September, after a seven-year hiatus.

MDP Deputy Leader Mohamed Shifaz proposed to hold the Congress in the meeting of the National Parliament held on Thursday night.

Shifaz said that September 15th was the most apt date to hold the Congress as the day is marked as the International Democracy Day.

Vaikaradhoo Constituency Parliamentarian Mohamed Nazim questioned over the preparations to hold the Congress on that date, adding in the questions of venue and budget to hold the Congress.

The las Congress was held in 2010. Attempts were made to hold another Congress in 2014, but postponed at the last moment.
