President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has engaged in discussions regarding potential cooperation in investment, trade and commerce with the new Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Maldives, Poj Harnpol.
The new Thai Ambassador presented his Letter of Credence to the Maldivian president at a ceremony held at the President’s Office on Monday.
Following the ceremony, the pair sat down for discussions which mainly revolved around potential areas of collaboration including investment, trade, commerce, boosting people-to-people contact, human rights protection and the battle against climate change.
Welcoming the ambassador to the Maldives and congratulating him on the commencement of his term, the Maldivian president shared perceptions on the close bilateral ties enjoyed with Thailand over the years.
He also shed light on the administration’s commitment to explore higher education scholarship opportunities for Maldivian students.
The ambassador reiterated interest to explore other areas of cooperation on mutually beneficial ways.
Shedding light on the support provided by the government of Thailand to the Maldives over the years, President Solih expressed highlighted the Covid-19 quarantine mandate for Maldivian travelers as well as the easing of visa facilitation.
The pair expressed commitment to further enhance the long-standing bilateral relations between Maldives and Thailand.
Diplomatic ties between the two countries were established on 21 June 1979.
