Lawyer Hisaan Hussain has called on the Parliament not to relinquish the rights they have been granted under the Constitution, especially at a time when the State via the Supreme Court was attempting to take over control of the Parliament.
Speaking in RaajjeTV’s “Fala Suruhee” program on Wednesday night, Hisaan said that the three branches of the state were separated for a reason and each branch had specific rights, responsibilities and powers. As such, she noted that previously the state’s attorney could request Supreme Court for a ruling on certain cases. However, Hisaan noted that in 200, the Supreme Court had decided that this represented an overreach and decreed that the AG cannot request as such.
Speaking on the cases raised against Jumhooree Party Leader Qasim Ibrahim, Hisaan noted that no concrete evidence had been raised by the state. She further noted that the investigation into the missing journalist Ahmed Rilwan is stalled within the judicial justice system and questioned on why such cases of national interest were not expedited.
