A record number of Maldivian students have secured positions in the world’s list of top 10 A’level achievers for 2016.
Eight of the world’s top A’level achievers are Maldivians, the Department of Public Examination announced at an event present said students with the annual award conferred in honour of the achievement.
The ‘Top Achievers’ Award’ was conferred to the students by Vice President Abdulla Jihad on Monday night.
Education Minister Aishath Shiham also spoke at the event, and stressed on the importance on local students pursuing future careers that would potentially be beneficial for the nation.
She further said that 189 students had acquired national top 10 achievers’ awards for their A’level examinations last year. 43 of these students are from outer lying atolls while the rest are from the capital. Out of the 189 figure, 121 were female students and 69 were male.
