Former member of the Judicial Service Commission, the Maldivian justice system’s oversight body, Aishath Velezinee has been given a 14-day period to present herself for police questioning.

The police said in a statement on Tuesday that Velezinee, who currently resides in Hague, Netherlands, is being summoned to testify in allegations made against her.

The statement said that if she does not present herself to the police, they would continue to pursue their investigation in her absentio.

The police had not specified as to the nature of the allegations made against her.

Velezinee has received notoriety as of late due to a number of posts on Facebook accounts, including videos perceived to sacrilegious. In one video, she claims to be ‘a messenger of Allah, now residing in the seventh heaven’ – a reference to the Quran’s mentioning of seven samaa’a.

Her twitter handle is currently called Islamic State Leader.

Commenters on the aforementioned video were enraged by the videos, and even the Islamic Ministry had officially decided that she is an apostate.
