Former President Mohamed Nasheed will speak at the 2017 Oslo Freedom Forum, in his capacity as human rights and environmental activist.
Nasheed had left the United Kingdom, where he has been living in self-imposed exile after the British government granted him asylum due to 13-year jail sentence against him on terror charges, to Norway on the 21st of May in order to take part in the forum.
2017’s Oslo Freedom Forum, its ninth sitting, will be held until the 24th May, and aims unite 'dissidents, activists, artists, journalists, and change-makers'.
Nasheed will address the forum on Tuesday evening, and is to speak about his experience during the controversial ousting of his administration in 2012, and the current human rights situation in the Maldives.
On Monday, he had given an interview to Spanish news outlet, El Pais, as well.
